Alan Kupperberg (May 18, 1953–July 16, 2015) began his career as a professional cartoonist at the age of 14 in 1967 when he sold The Canarsie Kid, a one-panel gag strip, to his local hometown newspaper, The Canarsie Courier. After attending New York’s High School of Art and Design, Alan worked in DC Comics production department, and later at Marvel Comics, where he drew The Invaders, Marvel Team-Up, and countless fill-ins and one-shots, including the legendary Obnoxio the Clown Vs. The X-Men one-shot. He was a regular contributor to Marvel’s black and white humor magazine, Crazy, for which he drew the aforementioned Obnoxio. Alan was also the artist on such DC Comics titles as Blue Devil, Cops, and Dragonlance, and drew several syndicated newspaper strips, including Howard the Duck, Incredible Hulk, and (Little Orphan) Annie. His work appeared in numerous national publications, including National Lampoon (where he co-created the world’s crustiest clown, Frenchy), Harpoon, and Parody.
